The ISSF Academy is the premier coaching platform officially recognized by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). Its mission is to support the developmental needs of shooting sport athletes at all proficiency levels while enhancing global coaching standards. By fostering both knowledge and skills, the Academy aims to shape the future of Olympic shooting sport.
Four Levels of Coaching Qualifications
The Academy offers a structured pathway with four distinct levels of coaching qualifications:
- D Course: Foundational Level
- C Course: Intermediate Level
- B Course: Advanced Level (Commencing September 2025)
- A Course: Elite Level (Launching alongside the 2025 ISSF World Cup Finals)
Currently, the Academy has successfully delivered D and C-level courses. The upcoming B and A courses will be accessible exclusively through Member Federations and will require prior qualifications and active coaching experience.
Inclusive and Specialized Training Opportunities
Recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion, the ISSF Academy plans to introduce para-shooting coaching courses for Levels D and C later this year. Additionally, specialized courses aimed at empowering female coaches are in the pipeline, reflecting the Academy’s commitment to broadening participation in the sport.
What is the D Course?
The Level D course, designed for foundational coaching, equips aspiring coaches with essential skills over a 12-week period, requiring approximately five hours of weekly commitment. Covering rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines, the course provides a comprehensive introduction to coaching techniques.
Prerequisites and Course Structure
Before enrolling, participants must complete the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Anti-Doping e-Learning (ADEL) course for high-performance coaches and present a certificate of completion.
The D Course Features:
- Weekly live online lectures with recorded sessions for flexible learning
- Practical range visits once a week to apply coaching techniques
- Access to an online learning platform for assignments and resources
Key values such as coaching competency, the prevention of harassment, and anti-doping are central to the curriculum. The course also emphasizes mental and physical training alongside technical shooting skills.
Upon completion, participants receive personalized feedback from ISSF Academy instructors, ensuring tailored guidance to enhance their coaching journey.
How to Register?
For D and C courses, individuals can register directly or through their Member Federation. However, B and A courses require registration through Member Federations, along with proof of prior coaching experience.
