The ISSF Academy’s efforts to elevate shooting sport received an enthusiastic response during high-level discussions with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

ISSF Academy Director, Vesa Nissinen, and Head of Administration, Karoliina Nissinen, engaged in productive meetings with an eight-member IOC delegation, led by Yassine Yousfi, Head of the Entourage Unit, and Sheila Stephens Desbans, Head of the Sport Development Unit.

The Academy’s goals, centered on enhancing support for coaches and athletes in shooting, were met with approval, with particular attention given to the Olympic Solidarity programmes—an IOC initiative focused on fostering global sports development.

“Our meetings with the IOC Sport Development and Entourage Units were truly inspiring,” said Karoliina Nissinen. “The effort the Academy has made in 2024 was very impressive to the IOC. The support for coaches and athletes in shooting will grow. The new Olympic Solidarity programme offers exciting opportunities and enhanced support for the growth of shooting sports.”

This positive collaboration signals a strengthened partnership between the ISSF Academy and the IOC, expected to continue through the Olympic cycle leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
