Baku recently hosted two prestigious International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) education courses, successfully qualifying a new generation of referees and judges. The courses, which took place in February, attracted participants from multiple countries, further strengthening the region’s contribution to the global shooting community.

The first course, an ISSF Rifle and Pistol Judges course, was held from February 20 to 23. Twenty-four participants from Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Poland, and Estonia gathered to expand their expertise in shooting sport regulations and officiating procedures. Six of these participants were part of the ISSF Refreshment course, with 18 others obtaining a new license after completing the training. Over the four days, attendees learned under the guidance of renowned experts Robert Ferencak and his assistant Kristiina Kivari, ensuring a high standard of education.

“The training was rigorous but incredibly rewarding, and it’s exciting to see so many new referees and judges who will contribute to the development of the sport in their respective countries,” said Ferencak, the course leader.

In a follow-up course, Baku hosted an ISSF Shotgun Judges and Referee course. Despite challenging weather conditions marked by heavy winds and snow, 18 participants from various regions attended, demonstrating their commitment to improving their skills in the shotgun discipline. The severe weather did not deter the course’s success, and the participants were able to complete their training under expert supervision.

These educational initiatives are part of the ISSF’s ongoing efforts to develop shooting sport worldwide and promote a global network of qualified officials. As shooting continue to grow in popularity and importance, these courses play a crucial role in maintaining the high standards of fairness and safety required at all levels of competition.

The successful completion of these courses has equipped a new group of referees and judges with the knowledge and credentials needed to officiate at international events, further advancing the future of shooting.
