After a six-year hiatus, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has announced the highly anticipated return of the Big Bore shooting competition. The India Open, set to take place from March 23–28, 2025, at the Infantry School, MHOW, promises to reignite the passion for Big Bore shooting across the country.
The Big Bore shooting competitions had been on hold since the 2019 Nationals, leaving shooters who had invested heavily in big bore rifles and ammunition without an opportunity to compete. Despite numerous appeals from athletes, the competition remained absent for several years, leaving many feeling sidelined. But now, the long wait is finally over. With the announcement of the India Open, these athletes are poised for a fresh start, with renewed energy and opportunities to excel.
Big Bore shooting has long been associated with glamour and recognition in India. Bollywood celebrities like Salman Khan and Nana Patekar have not only patronized the sport but have also competed in the National Championships.
