Olympic quota winners Angad Vir Singh Bajwa of Punjab and Mairaj Ahmad Khan of Uttar Pradesh won the gold and silver medals respectively in men skeet at the 63rd National Shotgun Championship in New Delhi.
Mairaj shot a qualification world record score of 125/125 over three days, but it was Angad with 123 in the qualification who finished better in the final as he too registered a world record score of 60/60.
The bronze was won by Gurjoat Singh of Punjab.
The two world record scores will not be ratified by the ISSF which only considers scores shot at selected international competitions.
However, Angad already holds the world record of 60/60 which he had shot at the Asian Shotgun Championship in Kuwait, last year.
Interestingly, Angad had beaten Mairaj in the shoot-off for the gold in the recent Asian Shooting Championship in Doha, in which the two won the last Olympic quotas for the country for Tokyo 2020.
Saniya Sheikh of Uttar Pradesh bagged her third national title, winning the gold in women’s skeet after a shoot-off with state-mate Areeba Khan 10-9.
The bronze was won by Parnaaz Dhaliwal of Punjab.
In the veteran men’s skeet, the gold was won by Rajah R. Rajagopal (113) of Tamil Nadu. Gusti Noria (105) of Telangana won the silver while D.P. Savya Sachi (103) of Karnataka took the bronze.
