Meghana Sajjanar of Railways outgunned Mehuli Ghosh of West Bengal 16-10 for the top spot in Women 10m Air Rifle (T1) at the ongoing National Selection Trials in Bhopal.
The 28-year-old Meghana finished sixth in the qualification with a score of 628.8 while Mehuli finished second with 630.9. Olympian and former world number one Elavenil Valarivan, who shot the best qualification score of 631.1, finished fourth in a strong field of 523 shooters.
Thereafter the trio again met in the medal match along with Mehak Jatana ( 629.2) of Punjab after the four had finished top-two in the two semifinals. Mehuli topped the medal match with a score of 44.5 and Meghana followed her to the gold medal match with 42.5. Mahek won bronze with 35.5 while Elavenil bowed out in fourth with 22.5 points.
Arya Rajesh Borse of Maharashtra overcame Kiran Nandana of Karnataka 16-8 to win the Junior Women 10m Air Rifle while Tilottama Sen defeated Mridvika Bhardwaj 17-9 in Youth Women.
Over 3300 Shooters, including all top shooters of the country, are participating in the year first National trials in Bhopal, after they had to be postponed from January this year, because of the raging pandemic.
Indian teams for the upcoming ISSF World Cup in Baku and Junior World Cup in Suhl are to be selected on the basis of these trials.
