World No.1 Elavenil Valarivan of Gujarat came up with a brilliant performance to stamp her class in Women 10m Air Rifle (T3) at the ongoing selection trials in New Delhi.
Th 22-year-old Elavenil shot the best qualification score of 631.6 and topped the finals with a brilliant 253.0 which is 0.1 better than the world record of 252.9 held by Olympic quota winner Apurvi Chandela, who was below par and failed to make the final today.
Apurvi had set the world record in 2019 at the ISSF World Cup in New Delhi.
This was the second time an Indian broke a world record mark in two days at the ongoing selection trials. Only yesterday, Divyansh Singh Panwar of Rajasthan had also gone past the world mark in Men’s 10m Air Rifle (T4).
Vanshika Rathore of Rajasthan came second with 250.5 while Meghana Sajjanar of Karnataka took the third spot with 229.0.
Olympian Ayonika Paul of Railways (631.3), Shriyanka Sadangi of Orissa (630.9) and Meghana (630.0) were all very impressive in qualification.

Women’s 10m Air Rifle: 1. Elavenil Valarivan (Gujarat) 253.0 (631.6); 2. Vanshika Rathore (Rajasthan) 250.5 (625.7); 3. Meghana Sajjanar (Railways) 229.0 (630.0).
