Chinki Yadav beat Olympians Rahi Sarnobat and Heena Sidhu, in winning the Women 25m Pistol gold at the 17th All India Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championship in New Delhi.
The 20-year-old girl from Bhopal beat Rahi, the qualification topper, 34-30 while Heena took the bronze in a field of 61 shooters.
Rahi was however very impressive in the qualification round with a score of 583.
In the juniors, Gauri Sheoran of Haryana clinched the junior title, getting the better of teammate Muskan 31-27 in the final. Chinki shot 24 to settle for the bronze.
In the Men’s 50m Pistol, Punjab’s Tinjit Dhanota upstaged Olympians Jitu Rai and PN Prakash on the way to clinching the gold in a field of 100 shooters.
Tinjit Dhanota beat Arjun Singh Cheema and Gurpal Singh for the gold. Interestingly, all the three eventual medallists had scored 550 in the qualification.
The World Championship silver medallist and Asian Games gold medallist, Jitu Rai was the first to be eliminated.
Another Olympian, Prakash Nanjappa finished fifth. Deepak Malik who had topped the qualification with a score of 562 finished fourth.
Arjun Singh Cheema, who lost the gold to Tinjit by 0.3 point in the seniors, took the silver in the junior section as well. Anmol Jain of Haryana claimed the gold while Shubham Baliyan of Delhi won the bronze.
