    Shahzar Rizvi becomes World No. 1 in air pistol

    After winning back-to-back medals at the last two ISSF World Cups in Mexico and Korea, Shahzar Rizvi has now become World No.1 in men’s 10m air pistol, according to the recent world rankings released by International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

    The 23-year-old, Shahzar, had won gold with a world record in his World Cup debut at Guadalajara, Mexico and a silver at the recent World Cup in Changwon, Korea.

    With 1654 points, Shahzar shot to the top spot ahead of Russia Artem Chernousov (1046) and Japan Tomoyuki Matsuda (803). In the same event, Jitu Rai, who won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is placed 6th.

    Shahzar had missed the cut for the Commonwealth Games despite being ranked in top two in the country. The selectors had to pick fifteen male shooters to compete in nine shooting events and so they decided to drop the air pistol specialist Shahzar.

    The other Indians in the top-10 are, 16-year-old, Manu Bhaker, is placed 4th in women’s 10m air pistol. Another teen sensation, Mehuli Ghosh, is placed 7th in women’s 10m air rifle while Anjum Moudgil is ranked 8th in women’s 50m rifle three positions.

    Among the men in top-10 are, Ravi Kumar 4th and Deepak Kumar 9th in men’s 10m air rifle while Akhil Sheoran 4th and Sanjeev Rajput 8th in men’s 50m rifle three positions.

    However, none of the shotgun shooters could make it to the top-10.
