Shreyasi Singh shot down the national record to reclaim the Women Double Trap title after a gap of two years at the 60th National Shotgun Championship, being held in Jaipur.
Shagun Chowdhary of ONGC won the silver adding to her trap silver on day one while Army’s Seema Tomar who won the trap title on day one settled for the bronze today.
Shreyasi shot a score of 98 (25,25,24,24) two points more than the previous national record in an event where she had to contend with the silver medal last year. She had also won the national title in the same event back in 2014.
The previous national record of 96 was set by Shagun Chowdhary at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
Speaking to indianshooting.com, Shreyasi said, “I think I performed really well with consistent rounds. I am glad I was able to make the new national record. Women’s double trap is not an Olympic event but I hope I can better my performance in the next Commonwealth and Asian Games. I have always shot both events together. I have been able to segregate the techniques easily in the past. My heart says double trap but my mind is more for trap”.
N. Nivetha of Tamil Nadu defeated Bhavna Chaudhary of Haryana 76-71 to clinch gold in the Junior Women Double Trap while Manisha Keer won the bronze.
